Echocardiography

Echocardiography is a noninvasive imaging procedure used to evaluate the heart’s structure, valves, and function. At Medicor Cardiology, our experienced specialists use advanced echocardiographic techniques to assess how your heart is performing and to assist in accurate diagnosis and treatment planning.

 Overview

Echocardiogram

An echocardiogram is a noninvasive procedure used to evaluate the heart’s structures, valves, and function. It provides an assessment of how the walls of the heart muscle are pumping and helps determine the cause of a heart murmur.

A transducer, similar to a microphone, sends out safe ultrasonic sound waves and is positioned on the chest at specific locations and angles.

The sound waves echo through the skin and reach the heart’s structures, where the reflected waves return to the transducer.
A computer then generates an image of the moving heart and the circulation within its chambers.

Procedure

Transesophageal Echocardiogram (TEE)

A transesophageal echocardiogram is performed by inserting a probe with a transducer down the esophagus (feeding tube), rather than placing it on the chest.

This allows for clearer visualization of the heart chambers and provides a direct view of the heart valves, infection sources, and any blood clots developing within the chambers.

An echocardiogram assesses the heart’s structures, valves, and how well the heart muscle is pumping. It helps explain symptoms such as a heart murmur or changes in heart function.

No. An echocardiogram is a noninvasive, painless test that uses safe ultrasonic sound waves to create moving images of the heart.

A standard echocardiogram uses a transducer on the chest, while a TEE involves inserting a specialized probe down the esophagus for a clearer view of the heart’s chambers and valves.

All echocardiography procedures at Medicor Cardiology are performed by trained cardiac specialists using advanced, state-of-the-art imaging equipment.
