Physician Biography

Steven E. Georgeson, MD, FACC, joined Medicor Cardiology in July of 1993. He came to Medicor from Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia where he trained in Cardiovascular Disease. Prior to that he completed a fellowship in Clinical Decision Making at Tufts New England Medical Center in Boston and trained in Internal Medicine at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia. He graduated from New York Medical College in Valhalla, New York with his M.D. degree and from Columbia College in New York with a BA in Computer Science.

Dr. Georgeson has served as the director of the Nuclear Cardiology lab at Medicor since 1993 and has been instrumental in gaining national accreditation for both the nuclear lab and the echocardiography program from the Intersocietal Accreditation Program.

Dr. Georgeson has been actively involved in a number of clinical research projects. He is the Principal Investigator in the pivotal Rocket Trial which evaluated a novel blood thinner (Xarelto) as an alternative to Coumadin for patients in Atrial Fibrillation. He has authored several papers which have appeared in peer-reviewed journals, chapters in textbooks and a column in the local newspaper focusing on cardiovascular issues. His extensive professional associations include fellowship in the American College of Cardiology, and the American College of Physicians. In addition, he is a member of the American College of Nuclear Cardiology and a committee member of the Sports and Exercise Section of the American College of Cardiology. He is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Disease, and he has twice re-certified in both of those fields. He is also board certified in Nuclear Cardiology from the Certification Council of Nuclear Cardiology.

Dr. Georgeson is actively involved at Somerset Medical Center where he has served as Chief of the Division of Cardiology, Director of the Echocardiography Laboratory, a member­ at-large on the Medical Executive Committee and co-chairman of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee. In addition, he is the director of the Student Athlete Evaluation Study where local high school athletes are screened for their risk for sudden cardiac death.

In addition to general cardiology, echocardiography and nuclear cardiology, Dr. Georgeson has active interests in adult congenital heart disease and sports cardiology.
